Successful defence of a client accused of subsidy fraud

Our law firm provided a comprehensive defence for our client, a member of statutory bodies of municipalities, in a case of a particularly serious crime of subsidy fraud, damage to the financial interests of the European Union, abuse of official authority and breach of duties in the management of foreign property.

This demanding process, lasting more than four years, involved multiple first instance and appeal proceedings.

Thanks to a carefully crafted defence, we were able to obtain the application of extraordinary circumstances in our client's favour for the first offence, which led to a reduction of the originally threatened prison sentence to a suspended sentence with a light financial penalty. On the second offence, the defence was so effective that the client was fully acquitted. The original claim for damages in the amount of CZK 10.2 million was also dismissed and the client was not obliged to pay this amount.
